Ingredients

Units Scale

FOR THE CHICKEN

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tsp italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

FOR THE CREAMY MUSTARD SAUCE

  • 3 tbsp unsalted sweet cream butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp italian seasoning
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 3 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken breasts with the italian seasoning, garlic salt, and black pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Place the seasoned chicken breasts in the skillet and cook until they are fully cooked through and golden brown, about 6 minutes per side. Remove from the skillet and tent with aluminum foil to keep warm.
  4. Melt the butter in the skillet, scraping the bottom of the pan as it melts.
  5. Stir in the garlic and cook for a few minutes until fragrant.
  6. Slowly whisk in the all-purpose flour and cook for a few minutes.
  7. Gently whisk in the heavy whipping cream, chicken broth, dijon mustard, honey, salt, and black pepper until combined.
  8. Simmer the sauce for 10 minutes, then return the chicken to the skillet and cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, spooning the sauce over the chicken. Enjoy!

Notes

  • If the sauce is too thick, simply add more chicken broth.
  • If the sauce is too thin, simply add more heavy whipping cream.
  • This recipe pairs well with garlic rice or homestyle mashed potatoes.
